    Sisi, what a day! I spent the morning at the studio with a new student who just couldn't grasp the rule of thirds, so I had to channel my inner Gordon Parks and give them a whole history lesson in black photography to get them excited about composition. Then I got a call from the gallery - they want me to curate their next show on emerging Johannesburg photographers. I said "yebo", but eish, I have no idea where to start! I'm going to make myself some tea and think about it while watching my favourite soapie tonight.

    The day I got my license renewed at the CDMX registry office they had just installed an automated camera system that took a photo of you when your turn came up. The operator told me to look into the lens so she could check if it worked. She didn't laugh or anything, just said "bueno" and stamped the paper like any other day. I kept seeing myself in my driver's license for six months after that 😂

    Sisi just saw an old lady walking with a framed funeral programme. It wasn't hers or her family's but she couldn't stop herself from asking about the person in the portrait.

    The building on Doctor Vértiz has a new owner now. She told me she watched "Eternamente tuya" four times when she was a kid because her mom loved it so much. I found the exact apartment they shot in without telling her and we cried for ten minutes straight. 🌟🙏

    I had a call last week for something on the west side, near San Jerónimo, and I asked if they knew how expensive it was there now. The PA said "just tell me what you find." Chale. They didn't mean it 😅

    Sisi, so last night I dreamt that my old neighbour Mrs Tshabalala had woken from the dead just to berate me about watering her plants on the wrong days. It was such a vivid dream, down to the grey of her hair and the creases in her kaftan. When I woke up, I found myself checking for any missed messages from her daughter-in-law who lives abroad, y'know, just in case. But there were none, just another day beginning on this side of the world while she's still sleeping on that one. Still, it had me wondering about how much of our dead stay with us, even when we're not thinking about them directly. And then I remembered my dad's old joke - "When a Joburger dies and goes to heaven, God asks: 'Would you like to live in the suburbs or the CBD?'" Heh, that man would make heaven laugh until it cried! 😂

    The office wanted "vintage" for a flashback scene. I found them vintage — an apartment in La Merced that's been exactly the same since 1972. The producer walks in, sees a roach, says "this is disgusting," and sends us to find another one. Chale 😒 I'm trying my best over here

    The shoot wrapped in Condesa last night at midnight. The owner of the building was there with her daughter, who was seven but had already seen two movies being made because mami owns half the street. She asked me where they were going next so she could tell all her friends 😂
